2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps please - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps please
What a week ... Thursday turned into a nightmare at work. None of the figures I had worked so hard to get out by the end of Wednesday were right. There was a technical problem with the linking ... and *I* am the one responsible for the technical side. My hide wasn't worth tuppence.
So I left work at five ... and went bowling ! If they don't appreciate me see how they do without me ! ... It was a good night - my team won 13-7 and I won 2 out of the 3 games I played.
Friday - I called in sick. I didn't sleep at all all Thursday night, I dunno why, but I didn't - and I couldn't face another day of misery at work on top of a sleepless night - so I called in sick. It meant I got to catch up on some of my sleep ... and watch some daytime TV .. which is always a treat!
Today ... that is Saturday, I got up at a reasonable time (read before lunchtime), and myself, my sister and my dad decide to go to the pub for a couple games of pool and a few beers. I grab a bite to eat (because drinking on an empty stomach is foolish!) and we wander over to our local, which is closed! ... Now in this backward country of ours, the pubs are only allowed to open at certain times ... but this is 12:00, and every pub is open at 12:00 on a Saturday! ... Hell even on a Sunday - the pubs are open at 12:00 !!
So we peer in through one of the windows and generally mumble about lousy landlords and the cheek of the whole matter when Gadj turns up ... This guy is a bar fly! ... He's there *every* day from opening to closing... at one stage we all thought he had the keys to the front doors !! ... And he tells us the story of the previous night.
In my local pub, that is about 250 yards from my front door, there was 3 stabbings, and a fight between so many people the police had trouble getting them all back to the station! One guy is still in intensive care, whilst another is now permanently minus an ear. this all happened 250 yards from my front door .... The reason the pub was shut was because at one stage - the guy in the hospital on life support was though to be so close to death, the police were already treating this case as a murder. The pub was cordoned off and the forensic boys spent from 6 o'clock this morning to 11:30 searching for clues. There are blood stains on the pavement nearby and about 20 foot down the side road. 250 yards .... This is the pub *I* was in the previous Friday.
The landlord has allowed this to happen ... it's supposed to be an over 21's bar (for our American viewers : you can drink in the UK from the age of 18) and the place is usually crawling with kids ... I doubt half of them are old enough to smoke!

On a lighter note, I went to the cinema tonight. I saw 15 Minutes, which is not such a bad film if you stick with it. The beginning was a bit disjointed, and I wondered if or when the plot would ever appear, but it does. The ending is amazingly tense. If ya have nothing to do - go see it!
