Long weekend break, Men In Black, Moon and Starfish.
I'm back! ... for a week :)

I've been to sunny Clacton, and amazingly sunny it was too!

A while back Misty and I decided we should have a couple weekends away. Kind of mini holidays away from my folks and the devil spawn. Well as Misty is going home at the end of this week time was running a little short and we'd done nothing. A couple of weeks ago my sister went to a nice B&B on clacton sea front and really enjoyed herself, and she suggested we go. Then about a week ago she decided she wanted to go again, and so she would join us ... then Bianca was going to join us as well ... and it was all going to hell in a hand basket when Bianca did something so naughty that Jo and Mum won't actually say what it is (so that must be *really* damn bad), so Jo told her she couldn't go to the seaside. Because she is a super sis, she still drove Misty and I there. The only problem being Bianca still tagged along for the journey!
I took Thursday and Friday off work, and we set out at 10 on Thursday morning. We was in Clacton by midday. We stopped at the Factory Park (or some such place) where we had lunch and did a bit of shopping. It's a brilliant place for bargins, the place is full of "outlet stores" where most of the prices are near half what they would be in the highstreet! Misty bought some scents for her mum and mine, and I got a suitcase ... and a back-pack ... and some smelly stuff ...
After the mad buying spree, i realised I had a lot of big, and heavy stuff ... and I'm supposed to be going away for a weekend break! ... but my nice sis took it all home with her in the car ! :)

The B&B where my sister stayed had no vacancies, but there are more B&B's in Clacton than pimples on a McDonalds teenage till person. We found one with an ensuite bathroom, and a 5 minute walk to the pier, for £20 ppn .. not bad! Breakfast was to be a buttered roll, fruit and cerial (not my ideal breakfast) Jo had to do some shopping, and I needed to get some cash as the B&B had no way to take VISA! After paying the B&B guy we walked to the pier where my sis left us to go back home. Directly opposite the pier is a weatherspoons pub ... called "The Moon and Starfish" It was like a home from home! Misty and I popped in for a quick beer and found they do breakfasts ... full english for £2.99! That sorted out the breakfast problem :)

We walked along the beach for an hour or so, then tried out the Italian resturant my sis had recomended to us. A nice bottle of red, a stilton steak, and some seafood pasta later and we was very happy :)

Next morning(Friday), after eating the rolls, we made our way to the Moons and had a very nice breakfast!
Then we hit the shops... Misty was looking for shot glasses with a place name on them, and I thought thats just the sort of thing you can get by the seaside... but no. We must have checked out at least a dozen shops, but without luck. We did however find the local cinema, and was just there in time to see MIIB (Men in Black II) ... The cinema was one of the very old style cinema/theatres, it was massive .. but with a relatively small screen. The sound was great though ... Dolby digital and all that jazz! The film itself was good, not quite as good as the first one, but very enjoyable. We decided on Chinese for dinner .. and I ate enough to kill a rhino. We got back to the B&B and played Yahtzee and drank wine.

Saturday morning, and after more buttered rolls it was back to the moon's for proper breakfast!
I had my camera with me to take pictures of the sea ... and so we took a walk on the pier (a really old scary made of wood with big gaps pier) and took pictures of the beaches and stuff ... I need to finish the film Misty goes back home. We had a nose around the arcades, and Misty spotted a booth that "draws" a picture of you, so we sat and had our picture done. it came out really well, so we've framed it. We continued our search for shot glasses (without luck) and for sewing needles, which we found! After returning to the B&B to rid ourselves of our newly aquired goodies, we had a couple in the moons while we decided on the venue for dinner. The rather pretentious Bistro at the end of the road was considered, but we ended up at the Pizza and Pasta place whose name escapes me. The food there was not erally of the highest quality ... we'd have been better off back at the italian we ate at Thursday night. I had this sudden urge to paddle in the sea, so we removed our socks and shoes, and walked along the beach letting the waves roll across our feet. The water was not as cold as I expected, it was very pleasant. As we walked home the clouds moved in, and I felt the first spots of rain. After a quick shower to rid feet of all the sand, Misty and I watched some quality television ... no really! ... oh ok - we watch a crappy batman film ! :)

Sunday morning, and the first total disaster of the holiday! To our horror we find the Moons doesn't do breakfast on Sundays! We wander around for a while until we find a nice little resaurant that does a full english. It's about twice the price, but was very nice all the same! I check the times of the trains home, we have just about enough time to get a couple books from Smiths for the journey and get to the station. While we are on the train it starts to pissistantly [sic] rain again. It's still raining with a purpose when we have to change trains, and Shenfield station has no covering! ... We finally arrive in Romford about 2 o'clock.

Current Mood: busy busy

He's coming with me for a week. Yay! December really isn't that far away, and thankfully, it'll seem even shorter because he's coming back over in October. I won't be here for Christmas, though. My mom is sort of nuts about Christmas, so I have to be *in her house* Christmas Eve. I flew out Christmas day last year, so I'll probably do the same this year. No matter how you slice it, it's never enough time.

tweezlebum From: tweezlebum Date: August 8th, 2002 01:18 am (UTC) (Link)

Here & there, yeah. I don't fly the same airline each time, so it's hard to collect miles. heh.

Colleagues of mine have become rather good at the air mile collection game, but I've been too lazy to sign up to 'em .. apart from Virgin ... am a frequent Virgin (well used to be, but they don't fly to thailand, or cuba, or egypt, or or or ...)
