I could die! - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
I could die!
I've given in and booked a Doc's appointment for this lung plague. This gives me the opportunity to experience the madness that is my local doctor's office.

I rang them at 12:00... and got an automated message saying the lines are only open between the hours of 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. Nice... so I am only allowed to be ill during working hours, with a nice long lunch break in the middle...

I rang them back at 13:45... and got an automated message asking me to book my appointment using my touch-tone phone.

The automated appointment booking system only works between 9 and 12, and 13:30 and 17:00? If it's automated, surely it can work 24/7? - it is a machine after all; machines don't need an hour and a half lunch break!

The next mind bomb exploded when it (the work to rule answer phone) told me the first available appointment was on October 20. That's two weeks away... I could die by then!

I hung up and redialled.

This time I "failed" to input my date of birth and telephone number correctly and eventually got a human on the line. The human told me they were, indeed, fully booked for two weeks, but she had just received a cancellation, and would I like it. Too bloody right.

8:30 Friday morning.

I guess that's better than dying...

I've never heard of an automated booking system at medical clinics. What are they thinking?

I have 3 clinics ranked from best to worst. If I just need a prescription refill, I'll go to #3 the walk in clinic. If my issue needs a "good" doctor, I'll go to clinic #2. If I need the best attention and it's worth waiting for, I go to #1. Usually I can get in with #1 if the receptionist thinks I sound like I'm dying over the phone.

But it really sucks when the yearly physical comes around and you find out it's a 6 month wait at #1 and 3 months at #2. So now I book all the parts of a physical separately, so it all get's done within 2 weeks. Mwahaha.

It's a game that I'm learning to play well;p
