Updates - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
Updating from work via email is not quite as simple as I thought. Getting the settings right is not straight forward and last time I managed to include my "sig" graphic which is attached to each email and details such things as my work email, address, direct line, fax, company name - the whole nine yards. Luckily seattleforge was quick to email me to let me know and I deleted the offending image before it got me into much trouble... Thank you again SF!

I worked out that I need to send a plain text mail so the graphic is not included. When doing this I also need to remember to add a couple of dashes at the end of my mail so LJ ignores the standard company legal disclaimer added to all my mails. It's all to complicated... but it beats trying to key this all in to a mobile phone - even if is does have a "full keyboard".

Talking of which... my new phone has arrived. Mobile phones are not mobile phones any more ... they are mobile computing devices. If you are lucky they also make phone calls! I think I have just about worked out how to use it now... and I'm quite happy with it so far.

I spent a good part of Tuesday night sending Lena links to crazy videos on YouTube. I'm not entirely sure how it started - but the early links were to such gems as Haddaway's "What Is Love?" and Dr Alban's "It's My Life" and then managed to deteriorate into links such as The Badger song and finally Bananaphone (Cellular, modular, interactivodular!)

I have had the bananaphone song stuck in my head for two days now... let that be a warning to you!

Last night, whilst trying to steer clear of earworms I stumbled upon some discussions about Sarah Palins new book "Going Rogue." A couple of thoughts instantly sprung to mind: "Didn't she have the eloquence of G.W. Bush without the smarts?" and "Who could possibly be interested in the woman who didn't become the VP?"

It seems she still has quite a following. It is also apparent that there are a lot of people who dislike her intensely. This makes for some "good drama!" Links to YouTube clips of her interviews (the one by Katie Couric is cringe worthy) were countered by accusations of misogyny and sexism (because no one has ever mocked G.W. for being dim). Spelling and grammar were not considered important by either side, and if anyone did mention it they were labelled "Elitist." (Nothing says Elite like proper grammar.) The only winner in all this is Sarah who is getting a lot of free advertising for her book which has been labelled lies by both the Left and Right!

Another drama fest of late has been the ejection of John and Edward (Jedwood) from Xfactor to cries of "it's a fix" and "at bloody last" and Katie "Jordan" Price quitting the Jungle because the public picked on her. I would hate for anyone reading this to think I actually watch these shows - but given the second by second updates appearing on Facebook (courtesy of my friends and family - thanks guys!) and front page banner headlines in the "news"paper calling itself the Metro I would have to be dead not to be aware of this.

The common factor between these reality shows is the peoples vote. In large groups people are bastards. Stupid, vindictive bastards at that. The anonymity of the mob allows this. I am surprised that this isn't common knowledge. That's why reality shows are still popular - no one can honestly think the "talent" is what keeps the viewers watching can they?

This is another argument (if there needs another) for scrapping democracy and replacing it with a better system... if only I could think of a better system. Government should not be about giving you what you want, but giving you what you need.

This random collection of half thoughts and rants has been brought to you by "too much coffee ™"

That was my point exactly! S.P. wasn't mocked because she was a woman - she was mocked because she was not very bright.
