Fat Finger
This last weekend was a DIY-tastic weekend again. Pictures of which can be found here.

Saturday Dad and I cleared my box room so we could put up some shelves and build a floor to ceiling cupboard. Once cleared we drilled holes and attached the racking to the wall. We stood back and saw that is was good slightly out of kilter.

When drilling holes in your wall it's worth checking a few things. For instance: never assume anything that the skirting boards are straight... or level. The racking might have all be purchased at the same time in the same lengths... but that doesn't mean they are all the same!

There was as much as 4mm discrepancy between the tops of the racking. This is enough to need to re-drill the holes. This is not enough for the racks to be in the same place! By good judgment sheer luck the two ends were level... but that still meant a dozen holes in the wrong place.

Sunday morning we cut the timber for the shelves. By we, of course I mean I cut a single shelf, got knackered and let Dad cut the rest. I am more of a power tool DIY person. Hand sawing is for wimps dads.

We also scribed the sides, or cheeks, of the cupboard to the wall. We did all this in good time to get to Mum's for sunday dinner and watch the last of Season 5 of The West Wing.

This morning I woke up with a finger about the size of a house. This has nothing to do with DIY - I've been bitten by some manky insect and my body is rebelling. It is making typing interesting.
