First Barbie of the year and NuSuDoKu - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
First Barbie of the year and NuSuDoKu
I've left it a little late this year... but last night I fired up the barbecue for the first time this year. I managed to leave work at a reasonable time and popped into Nisa on the way home looking for inspiration more than any specific groceries.

Inspiration came in the shape of a bag of charcoal. I had a quick think and remembered the tuna steaks I have in the freezer... and this led to the purchase of said charcoal, some vegetables and bread rolls. Getting home I found that the charcoal wasn't the self-lighting variety I normally get... but I remembered I had some fire-lighters hidden away under the sink from many years back!

I have been playing a new variation on the Sudoku, based on the prize Sudoku in the morning papers... the aim is to fill in the shaded squares ONLY... you have to remember the rest!

For example: From today's Metro the prize "Metroku" was as follows.
    1       9   8
  9   1   8   3
  3 8   4 6   2
1     6         9
    5 2   7 8
9 8       3 6   2
  1   5 2   7 8
  2       4   9
7   9   3       6

The answer from top to bottom would be 5, 2 and 2... with the two 2s being very easy, but the 5 requires mentally filling in the 4's and 7's first!

You might be wondering why! Why would I want to be making it more difficult than it really is? The answer lies in the fact I have about 35 minutes on my journey into work. The Metro has 3 Sudoku each day, an easy one (the prize one), a "moderate" one, and a "challenging" one. Normally the easy one takes less than 5 minutes, the moderate one take between 5 and ten minutes, and the challenging one takes too long! Half completing a Sudoku is no good as there is no way to check it is right! I might just as well guess. So normally I would just do the first two and read the paper.

Reading the paper is not good for you. If my world view was limited to what the Metro wanted me to know about each day I would have ended it all years ago. The sensationalism is depressing. The inane is more so. I have vowed to stop reading the damn thing... so I need to take more time doing the easy Sudoku!

Pa makes the top number 7 not 5.

Now, not wanting to come between Husband and son, I'm sitting on the fence with this one!! Please sort it!
