Hanging on a wire. - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
Hanging on a wire.
It was a good weekend.

Friday night I worked late... so I didn't end up in the Pub until some ridiculous hour.  This meant Saturday morning actually existed for me!  I got up, got some laundry done, washed the dishes and made some breakfast (bacon sarnies) all before noon!

I played some WoW... (there'll be a separate WoW update later) and generally bummed around until about 5.  I got ready to go out to the Albert for some karaoke goodness!  Leon turned up at mine about 45 minutes late (as is usual) needing to borrow my shower as his boiler is not working.  he brought with him Guitar Hero III (for the Wii) and I am addicted to yet another music game!  I played for a little while he got ready... and my sister arrived and mocked me for the rather crap sounds coming from my playing.

We set off a little later than planned!  The Albert hasn't really changed that much... some of the people no longer go there, but the bar staff are the same and the décor is just as bad as it ever was.

Pete has just updated his collection... much to Leon's glee!  Pete caught me flipping through the pages and wanted to know why the hell I was bothering... I've only ever sang the one song - and I usually have to have quite a bit of Dutch courage before hand.

Not to disappoint Pete, I chose "Up the Junction - Squeeze" as my first song... but added "You Do Something to Me - Paul Weller" as a second.

I have a love hate relationship with Karaokes - I love music and I hate it being murdered by drunks.  I have a good ear for music... but unfortunately that doesn't mean I have a good voice for it.  I can hear a bum note at 150 paces... I can sing one at the drop of a hat.

Up the Junction is a fairly easy song because Glenn Tilbrook doesn't really use much of a range throughout the song... but it is tricky if you don't know the words inside out because it's quite fast paced.  I do know the words... I've sang along with it hundreds of times - I am confident I could sing it without the words coming up on the screen! :)  This didn't stop the nerves... and I could feel a warble in my voice and my hands were shaking.

I was feeling a little more relaxed for the second song... due mostly to the two or three extra pints of beer.  Pete asked why I'd chosen this one... and why I'd never tried to sing it before.  My answer to both questions - I love this song!  He let me know it's one of his too... so he'd be off to the car park for a smoke now.  There's no one like Pete to put you at your ease!

After a dodgy start I think I managed not to disgrace myself.  Jo was complementary (but then she's my sister - so she has to be) and Cliff (Jo's friend) said "It wasn't bad"... but it turns out it's one of his favourites... so I guess that's a bit of a complement too!

Jo & Pete did their party piece... "Love by the Dashboard Light" with a few of their own lyrics - as usual.  Jo sang "Son of a Preacher Man" and Leon sang "Sit Down - James" and "Eternity -

We stayed until the Karaoke stopped... then on the way home decided that milk (for tea) was required.  Jo let me play with my Bongo's (that she'd got me for Christmas) so we could play 2 player Donkey Konga-2.  That game just never gets old!  Leon and I had a job completing one of the more tricky ones... but that might have been the alcohol!

Jo left and I loaded up the Guitar Hero again.  I wants one now.  I played even after Leon had given up and gone to bed.  I fell asleep - guitar in hand - and woke up cold and stiff at about 5 o'clock.

Needless to say I didn't see Sunday morning or afternoon (from the wake up side) and I almost missed the evening as well!  After a wake up call from Mum... and some food... I settled down for a little more WoW and then bed.
