Glastonbury 2005, Batman Returns - The Paranoid Android

Glastonbury 2005, Batman Returns
Another week flies by...

Due to the increasingly insane weather last week, Misty and I ate out (or ordered in) a record number of times. The District line was perhaps the worse it's been ever. I had an insane amount of work to complete in a short week. I didn't complete half of it.

The weekend started later than planned. Due to some of the work needed to be completed I didn't leave the office until 19:00. It rained hard... which was a welcome change as it managed to cool the air considerably. I'm so glad I remembered my umbrella.

Friday night we watched Glastonbury on the multitude of BBC channels dedicated to it over the weekend. Between the hours of 18:00 and 02:00 there were at times no less than 6 channels showing footage from the many stages at the event. Being able to choose which bands to see was almost like being there. For the full effect I could have brought the garden into the front room and emptied the bath into it. For even more realism I could have left the bath running upstairs till it over flowed. I'm pretty sure this was the muddiest year yet at Glastonbury.

I watch a considerable amount of TV over the weekend - most of which was the coverage of the festival. I will summarise my feelings about it here:

I have found out I really like Royksopp, the Killers, White Stripe, Kaiser Chiefs (bit of a surprise there), Keane, and The Tears (which are really Suede with a different name no matter how much they protest).

I was really impressed by the Fatboy Slim and Coldplay sets. I was totally underwhelmed by New Order, Razorlight and Primal Scream.

Misty went into London on Saturday to meet Dora and buy beads. I stayed home and mopped/vacuumed. The girls returned to Romford where I met them for a quick beer, a film and some food. The beer was great - the film was most enjoyable - the food was not such a great success.

We wanted to watch Sin City - but missed it and didn't want to hang around for another 2 hours - so we saw Batman Begins instead. This is bar far the best Batman film yet. It was so very dark, and much less reliant on gizmo's and gadgets. The gadgets in the film are more Bond than Batman - and this strangely adds a level of realism to what is a comic book story. I liked it lots - Misty did not.

We didn't realise just how late it was and feared the noodles bar might be closed. I was quite excited to find it open - only to be disappointed when we were told they were closing half an hour early. We ordered take away - which just isn't the same. We got home where I watch another couple hours of Glastonbury.

I woke up very late on Sunday. Two nights of post 02:00 bed times was taking it out of me. I am getting so old! Misty made lunch and I cut the grass for the first time in weeks. I noticed the garden is in desperate need of some care - but I really couldn't be bothered. I'll try and do some one or two nights this week.

Dora brought Underworld with her so we watched that. Another enjoyable (if not particularly thought provoking) film. I was a little concerned that some of the Vampire mythology had been completely ignored - since when did a vampire have a reflection? I wonder if they made a concious decision, or just couldn't be bothered to remove all reflections post production?

Dora left us in the evening. Misty and I didn't do much at all. I watch more TV and played silly games from Real Arcade. I didn't stay up till 02:00... but it was close.

I feel like shit today.

I heard bad things about the new Coldplay album... I think I should have just ignored them and got it anyway.

It was a sci-fi-tastic weekend with added live music - the best kind of weekend you can get! :)

I think I have seem more then my fair share of Vampire stories... one of my favourites being Ultraviolet where the clever use of a two way mirror was used to detect vampires masquerading as real people!

It wasn't that scary if I recall correctly... it was quite tense at times though

I think I've just talked myself into watching again! :)
