The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
Sicker than M.J.
I had a very productive weekend... but it started rather badly. Thursday night Roger celebrated his recent promotion to MD with drinks at the Corney and Barrow. I don't really like the C&B, it's poncey, expensive, and they don't sell draft beer. I had every intention or turning up for a couple and then making my excuses and going home.

Intentions... yeah really. I was still there at the end of the night drinking a mixture of "exotic" bottled "beers" and a couple of glasses of champagne. I was well and truly trollied. I staggered the short distance to Liverpool Street Station where I ordered some Burger King and got on one of the late night trains to Barking. About half way through the journey I knew that the Burger King was not going to be a good idea (the smell was making me nauseous) so I binned it. I started getting the cold sweat that comes just before I am very sick.

I managed to make it to Barking, change trains and get on the District line, and get to Elm Park before I could take it no more. I emptied my guts into a bin at Elm Park Station. I start the walk home - usually a 10 minute journey. I think I was sick twice on the way and have no recollection of when I got in. I do know my coat was splattered and I ended up with a hankie full of sick. I believe it to be the worse state I've been in since adulthood, with the possible exception of my 21st birthday party were I was drinking from midday without so much as a chip eaten.

Friday morning I had every intention of getting into work. I woke a little later than usual, and was running around trying to find my clothes from the evening before so I could extract my belt and wallet and such-like. I eventually found them all in the computer room... although I have no idea why. All the running about was making me feel bad.. and I ended up hunched over the great white telephone to god.

About this time I noticed my pounding headache and knew I needed re-hydrating. For the next hour I alternately drank water and threw it up. I eventually returned to bed with the bin from under the hand basin "just in case..."

I half slept-half died for an hour or so. I managed to eat a piece of dry toast and drink a pint of water about 1 o'clock and not be sick for a whole hour or so. I ate another piece of toast around 5 and kept it down. I still had the shakes when Misty arrived home.

I think Friday was a sign... I need to give up alcohol for a while.

Friday night I cooked dinner. Misty was pissed off as I hadn't called into work and they had called her. Dinner was my apology. She was slightly less mad after that.

I managed to eat dinner - a simple chicken "Kevin" Kiev and boiled potatoes with broccoli cheese. I almost felt better by the time I went to bed.

wossisnameDad had said he'd come visit us this weekend with sickandpooBianca to see the kittens. The house was a bit untidy so Misty and I decided to spring clean before they got round. I knew dad wouldn't come round too early because he knows me! Saturday was the last Dagenham home game so they ended up coming on Sunday. It did mean the house got a good clean which ended up taking just a couple hours. We need people to visit us every weekend so we have a reason to clean.

We didn't go anywhere this weekend which meant we had a lot of time to get stuff done. I put the new lamp on the porch - we'd only had it since last October. We got all the laundry done. I ironed everything that was dry. The bird food was replenished. The bathroom was cleaned. The vacuuming was done. The grass got cut, the rose bed with all the weeds got strimmed, Dad helped dig up a rose bush and cut back another, misty finished off the weeding I started last week. The front garden looks good.

There was plenty time to play with the cats. Sam and I spent a couple hours in the garden with one of her fur balls. The kittens had plenty of play time. Twinks was his usual self and stayed hidden away upstairs, only coming to see us when we got to bed.

We got to watch Doctor Who on the right night! We watched half a dozen episodes of STNG and an episode of Farscape. As weekends go it was most rewarding - almost like I'd had two! I'm looking forward to the coming long weekend...

1. Who cleaned the bathroom?

2. I wish there was another way to describe what happens when Sam plays with her favorite toys, as all of them sound quite bad.

"Playing with her fur balls" sounds like we don't give her any toys, so she has to hack something up.

"Playing with her furry balls" sounds vaguely obscene.

"Playing with her rabbit fur balls" sounds obscene with more adjectives.

"Playing with her jingle balls" reminds me of Keebs.

It's just madness.

1) You did.

2) Perhaps "Cat toy" would be a better choice of phrasing?

1. No, I didn't.

2. But that could refer to any number of things. Hell, it could even refer to us!
