Have I mentioned how I hate the beginning of the month?
I have set tasks to do around the first 5-6 working days of the month. As a project manager I don't believe I should be doing "monthly" tasks. I think that is why I hate these tasks as much as I do.

The first task will eventually go away... The new month end process for getting figures out of the GL and into the head office system still needs a little encouragement from me. Perhaps they will get it all right next month? This resulted in a late night last Thursday.

Next I have the CPP feed. The bugger of this one is I have no idea who it's for. There is a guy in the States who will complain if I don't complete it on time... and there are a bunch of people who send me stuff from all over the place... but no one seems to know what the hell this is for. I really love doing jobs that have no apparent reason.

The other problem with this job; because no one knows what it's for they are no included to put much effort into it. I have to chase people for some figures. I have to match data based on description fields rather than codes. You have no idea how many different "Global Convertible" funds we have and I do not know how I am supposed to match the right ones. Last Friday was CPP day - I ended up working late.

The UK retail feed to AMPERE is last. I have the 5th working day to produce a feed from about a dozen different sources. These figures will eventually be used in the profitability report - the one where the big knobs see which product/client/sales arm actually make money and which are a waste of money. This report is taken very seriously and if the figures are crap they will eventually trace it back and I'll need extensive surgery to my arse from the chewing it will get.

The plus side of this job; I know what I am doing here. Providing the figures given to me are correct I know the feed I create is good. Getting the correct figures has proved to be a challenge. For a start - one persons idea of correct differs to the next. Are rebates trailer fees or should they be netted off against the management charge? The answer to this question alone can change anything up to 8 times a month. Each time it changes I have to change the way the feed is produced, and then test my changes to make sure I haven't broken something else in the process. This month the feed was broken and I didn't get the file off until gone 6. I have to hang around and wait for the file to be loaded before I can leave which meant late night number 3.

Yesterday I hear that Bodger T is miffed about our timekeeping again. I am in the strange position that my normal start time is 10:00... so if I am a minute late everyone on the floor notices. I can guarantee that there's probably only 2-3 people who know when I leave of an evening... and Bodger isn't in that select group.

Enough of the work rants.

The weekend was busy. Saturday saw Misty and me in B&Q again! We got mum a nice plant for mothers day, and some pots to house all the plants we've bought over the last couple weeks that have been sitting in the kitchen. We spent the rest of the day at the 'rents - chatting well into the night.

Sunday was a chores day. After popping back to the 'rents to give mum her card we started on the washing... Misty doing the clothes - I did the deep fat fryer. It's disgusting how the fat gets everywhere - I virtually had to take the thing apart. A quick mop up afterwards, vacuum the front room, then iron for the week. By the time I was finished my back was killing me!

Oh well - from a work rant to a chore rant. That's about my life around the beginning of the month.

Current Mood: busy busy

ooo - I haven't had chips for ages!

We don;t use the frier that much - that's probably why it goes so long between cleans.
