The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
wildlife park
The trains were so bad last Friday I wasn't able to get to work. Misty left the house at her usual time (about 8:00 ish) and was still waiting at the station at 15 to 9 when she called me. I did a quick check on the TFL site and decided a trip via Romford was about the only option. She ended up over an hour late.

I called in and "worked from home." This entailed spending about 3 hours on the phone to some technical support from the states trying to get my various citrix passwords changed and "synced" After that I decided to call it a day. I was quite badly hung over from the previous night and was feeling a tad sick. I was unaware I had left my laptop at work until I called in and asked Dave if it was still there... just as well all considered!

Misty brought Dora home and Dora brought the first series of Black Books on DVD. We watched the entire series before "retiring." The first episode was a little slow... but that's unavoidable while the main characters are introduced. The rest are damn funny from start to finish. I rarely laugh out loud to anything - but this had me giggling away like a school girl. Bill Bailey helps in this... I only have to look at him to laugh.

Saturday we got up late... well Misty and I did - Dora was up about 10:30! This was noteworthy!

We all went to Romford where we split up as the girls wanted to shop for wool. I, on the other hand, did not. I drooled in the gadget store where they had a 20% off sale! (and made a purchase) then I drooled in the other gadget store called base something or other (and made a purchase) and then drooled in Game (and made a further purchase) before heading back to the centre of the mall type thing they have going on in Romford these days. I had received no calls... so that could mean only one thing. The girls were still shopping for wool.

I headed that way and sure enough they were still there. Shocking really. I did meet Bradley's better half going up the escalator as I was going down the other side. It took me a moment to recognise her as I've only ever seen her with Bradley - and I was still not feeling as sharp as I would normally be from Thursday night. So, Brad, if you read this - tell your missus I'm sorry if I seemed a bit out of it - I was! :)

After I finally dragged them kicking and screaming out of the wool shop we did a little more shopping before Dora headed home and we headed to the 'rents. Mum had called on Friday and told me about a couple of parcels being delivered... and I knew one of them was for Misty (because I had ordered it for her!)

Misty had mentioned a few weeks ago that she wanted something to feed the squirrels. All of our bird feeders are "anti-squirrel" and Misty was feeling sorry for them. I did a bit of googling and found a really cool site that does "garden stuff" - amongst which was a nice squirrel feeder. Misty was a happy bunny, so job done!

I attached them just under the trees at the bottom of the garden Sunday morning. If I manage to capture any decent photos of rodent activity I'll be sure to post them.

With Dad's help I was able to fix the back door this weekend. One of the screws have been missing from the catch since I moved in. I had got round this by tightening the one remaining screw a lot so the plate didn't move. Due to this over tightening I had ripped the middle out of the screw head. Now I was unable to tighten it at all and the back door could only be closed by a secret, almost magic, manoeuvre mixing keeping the handle depressed till the last minute and then pushing it up until the locking mechanism was in place. I had gone looking for a couple of replacement screws at our local hardware store - but will little luck. Talking to dad about it on Saturday he says - "I probably have a few of those" and proceeds to produce a large tub of miscellaneous screws of all types and sizes. Sure enough there are a couple that are about the right size - and I try them out as soon as I get home. They are a perfect fit! :) Now the door will close if you just push it. It's the simple things like this than make life a better place!

The rest of Sunday was a mixture of laundry and ironing. We managed an entire weekend without a trip to B&Q... wonders will never cease to amaze me.

Yesterday I woke up with a splitting headache. I called in sick (to a sick Dave as it turns out) and slept it off a little before watching a film and listening to a lot of BBC Radio 6. Sam and Twinks thought their luck had changed and took turns sleeping on me for most of the day.

I was feeling a lot better by the time Misty came home so I cooked dinner... that sounds grand but it was a "throw it all in the oven" type meal. After dinner Misty and I played Rummy (or some variation of - I've since looked up the rules on the web and we were not playing by the basic rules!) and listened to the radio. It made a welcome change to the usual nightly routine.

To work, or not to work.....

Are you still sick, honey? At home, or not? Either way I wish you well. How's the knitting going?

Love to you both. See you the weekend, hopefully. xxx

Re: To work, or not to work.....

I've got my cold back. It seems there is not a week goes by when I dont have a cold or a sore throat or a headache. I'm falling apart!

I'm working from home today as it was rotten out and I feel poo. Misty called earlier to say she was having a lot of trouble getting in to work this morning... so I made the right decision.

I should pick up season 2 now, and season 1 for myself as that one was borrowed. Mad giggling indeed. :D

I've added all three seasons to my wish list :) ... the third season is still full price - but the other two are below a tenner... next pay day's treat I think
