OMG look at the time! - The Paranoid Android

OMG look at the time!
We finished the floor last Wednesday

Another possible DIY weekend started with a mammoth trip to B&Q. I'm not sure what time we got there (it was after a nice meal at Burger Kings and a quick trip to Tesco) but we were still there at 6:00!

We spent another £100 odd because B&Q is the black hole for money. We priced up wood for shelves and somewhere nice to put the TV and mentally spent another £400 or so. I got a B&Q card (so I can run up huge debts there too!)

Because we got home so late we were unable to cook the dinner we had planned until Sunday.

While Misty cooked I cleared some of the mess out of the kitchen. This involved wiring up the hi-fi... separates are good in theory but in practice they are a pain in the butt to move about. The 4,674,235,786 cables required about an hour to connect back up. It seems to be working okay now.

I spent a large portion of Saturday night (and the early part of Sunday morning) looking for the power adapter to my spare monitor. I still haven't found it. This annoys me greatly.

Last week (in work) I was looking at ways to share the MP3's on my PC with a select few comrades and found some web servers for Win32. The one that appealed the most was a version of Apache. After some tweaking I got it to serve pagers to the other PC's in my department (after a password had been entered) and listed the contents of a directory and all its subs. This is my first play with Apache - and I like it. I decided to set up one of my spare machines at home as an Apache web server. Hence the search for the spare monitor. Hence my annoyance.

I had purchased a wireless PCI card from B&Q for the sole purpose of being able to run this machine anywhere in the house (or the garage if necessary!) so I could play with it in the front room. This way I get to see Misty as well as play. At least that was the plan.

I booted up the spare to find windows 98 partially installed. I thought this was useful as I could use it to download all I needed from the web. Unfortunately I had a Voodoo 5500 card in it - and 3Dfx (the makers of said card) no longer provide support/drivers/anything. NVIDIA purchased the rights to the 3Dfx chipsets, among other things, but do not support the 3Dfx cards. That would not be so bad but they don't even host the original drivers for the cards. I think that is low. How much would it cost them in all honesty to host a few files with a caveat that they are the final versions and no longer supported? I will be seriously considering their actions when I purchase my next PC/graphics card.

I eventually found some windows drivers - but have yet to find Linux/Unix ones I will need if I am to run this machine as a web server.

We taped "Never mind the Buzzcocks" Saturday night as it was the one we saw being recorded a couple of Wednesdays ago. Gary was right when he said it was funnier than being there... editing can help a lot!

Due to the late night Saturday I was late up on Sunday. Misty popped into Woollies while I wash some dishes and tidied a little. I got into the tidy bug and ended up washing the vacuum cleaner (Strange but true!) after I vacuumed the downstairs.

I listened to Radio 6 for most of the day. Radio 6 on a Sunday daytime is like a really long John Peel show. The diversity in music was impressive. I think I might try and listen again.

Misty made the Lasagne originally planned for Saturday and damn fine it was too. She also put a nice lump of beef into the slow cooker so tonight's dinner should be fabulous too.

We watched Fortress which has a surprisingly high 5.3 rating on IMDB and Two Mules for Sister Sara which Misty only saw the first 10 minutes of because she went to bed about then. I had forgotten how bad Fortress was, and how funny Two Mules is.

This post has taken me the best part of an hour to write (although I have been interrupted with work of all things) so I guess it's time to head home.
