Misty and I got up at a reasonable time for a Saturday and went to Ilford. The shopping experience there was so much nicer than the previous week when we were in Romford. I think there are less of the scummy types in Ilford. We were reasonably successful in our searches (with the exception of crayons for James!) and had Noooooodles for lunch at Cocos - which also surpassed it's Romford counterpart.
A little more shopping in Elm Park... sausages from the nice butcher for breakfast (I thought), crayons from our local Woollies, and some 99% acid to clean the drain... and I was home just in time for a quick scrape and out the door again for the gig.
It turns out that Mandy's father is a good friend of "Dave" - one of the Singers in the band, They (Dave and Dad) had been up all night getting trollyed! We didn't so much have tickets - we were on the Guest List. This included after show party passes! Lena had joined us as well as two strangers... "friends of friends of friends" kind of thing.
From then on it was a mad mix of booze and good music. Hearing the entire Hammersmith Apollo singing "Don't marry her - Fuck me!" on the tops of their voices will stay with me for a while.
The gig was great. The new female singer was awesome. The band were tight. A damn good night in my book.
A couple or three encores later and we are in the circle bar with about 100 or so others while the masses are being kicked out! Lifestyles of the rich and famous... it wasn't quite. The band must have had enough the previous night as they didn't show... so we just had a few more beers and left. It was now late, we were at the opposite side of London, and the tubes had finished for the night... time to make a decision... do we find a party here or try to make our way home.
I've been in this situation so many times before I now know that home is the only sensible option - and I'm of about the age where the sensible option is preferable - even drunk as a skunk.
After an aborted attempt to find a night bus that would take us in the right direction we hailed a black cab and set off home... Lena and Mandy intending to stay at mine. After stopping off at a café so the girls could pee and about £75 we got home.
I have no idea why but I managed to finish another beer whilst watching a DVD. Misty had either been woken up - or hadn't got to sleep yet and joined us downstairs.
Mandy and Lena left early on Sunday... I managed to scrape myself out of bed sometime in the afternoon. I did manage to Iron a few shirts and a couple pairs of trousers... but that's about it on the productivity front. The hot pot wasn't ready in time so we had the sausages I'd planned on having for breakfast... so it worked out in the end!
Just a quick note to mum.... sorry we didn't make it round on Sunday - now you know why! :)
