Rumours of my death... - The Paranoid Android — LiveJournal
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
Rumours of my death...
...were almost accurate.

I ache already - this is a Bad Sign™ Usually I don't ache until the day after the day after. I must be a lot more unfit than I believed.

The game itself was great fun. Due to a few drop outs we had 4-a-side, and we played "rush-goalie". This is probably how I managed to play the whole game without being physically sick. I lingered toward the back and jumped in goal every time the ball entered our half. This worked well for the first half of the game as we were a goal or maybe two ahead.

By half time the other three were feeling a bit knackered as they had been doing all the running around - so I ventured past the half way point and ran about a bit. I managed to contribute to a couple of spectacular goals but totally failed to score - even faced with an empty goal - big Ade storming in to clear my feeble shot from the line. A few more attempts ended up 6' above the crossbar, the rest wide of the mark. I'm not sure I tested their goal keeping skills at all after that first heroic clearance.

With tiredness taking it's toll on just about everyone except "The Ozzie" who just kept running and running and scoring - lots of scoring - we finished the game comfortably ahead. It has to be noted that Art also failed to score - once to an open goal after he entered the area. He was less than 4' from the goal line - and he hit the crossbar. "The Ozzie" very kindly let him kick one in the net after the game had finished... just so he could remember what it felt like.

Final score: updated - 12-5

The teams were:
dark shirts - Myself, Andy(4), Marcus(4), Ed(4)
light shirts - Art, Gareth, Mark(3), Ade(2)

If I survive tomorrow and the day after I think I'll start playing regularly again. There's nothing like 45 minutes of running around like a mad hen to keep you feeling good about yourself.

Current Mood: great - for now.
Current Music: The Jam - Start!
