Another exciting™ instalment of "my life."

Not a lot has been happening recently. That is to say - nothing worthy of note. I get up - I go to work - I come home (usually later than planned) - I eat - I watch a little TV - I play on the computer.

The weekends have been better... Over the last 3 weekends we have entertained twice... once to the delectable nuala, and once to a couple we play Eve with and my mate Gary who also plays Eve.

Misty purchased a cat recently... her name is Sam and she's a cheeky little bugger. I was woken this morning just a little before the alarm by her jumping on me. Just after the alarm went off she batted at my face because I wasn't getting up. She is Misty's and my surrogate child.

This last Saturday was good. Misty and I decided to wander around the local shops - not for anything in particular - just to get out and have a walk. We wandered over the hill, had breakfast in the bakers, and wandered down to Woolies. A local Woolworth is a fantastic place... in one small store they have everything know to man except what you actually went in there for. Walking around you will notice tones of things that would be cool to have... if you didn't have to carry them home. You will also notice things you wanted the last time you were in the store - but have since purchased else where.

We were looking for some form of container for my growing collection of cuff-links. Sam has taken a bit of a liking to them and I am now a couple short. No doubt I'll find them under a table or something. True to form there was nothing in Woollies that fit the bill... although we did find an ice-cream scoop and a bulb for a lamp that I have. Walking back from Woollies we passed a charity shop, and misty thought we might find something in there. I've never really been one for raking around shops full of other peoples bric-a-brac... (I have enough of my own thank you!) but with a specific purpose in mind these stores can be ideal. Unfortunately there was no suitable container within... but there was a load of records (you know - vinyl discs and all that jazz?). I had to look through - and I spotted a couple of bargains! An autographed LP of Howard Jones - signed to "Joanne" Now my sister is a bit of a fan and her name is Joanne and I believe she has still got one of my Howard Jones CD's (but she denies it). Then the ultimate bargain - an unscratched copy of "Night Flight to Venus" by Boney M for a pound!

Misty spotted a rather difficult puzzle - so we got that for Mum. Now I had the Charity Shop Buzz ... I wanted to visit them all ... and with just one aim - finding crap songs from my youth. I managed to find Da Da Da by Trio and Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. Both for just 10p!

On the way home we stopped at Mum's to give her the jigsaw puzzle and Jo the LP. Jo still swears she hasn't got my CD... maybe I'll check at home again.

When we got home I spent hours getting a new ring tone for my mobile phone. It was all Misty and Jo's fault. Jo had been playing with my phone - trying out all the ring tones and complaining that they were shit - or that she couldn’t have one. I know I read somewhere that I should be able to record my own ring tone of pretty much what ever I wanted. I began to investigate.

Misty decided that the best ring tone would be PPK's Resurection (and I have to agree!) So I found the CD, and ripped it to my PC. I know my phone can play wma files - so I ripped it with media player at about 40bps the file was massive - but what the hell right? I copy the file across to my phone... and... not entirely a success. I can play the tune using my phones media player... but I can't make it a ring tone.

there are a bundle of files with the names of ring tones ending in amr. I research the amr file type and it seems like certain phones use this Adaptive Multi-Rate codec for ring tones... I even find a converter! Unfortunately it only converts wav files. I look all over windows media player for the "rip to wav" option - but it doesn't seem to exist. I hit download.com and search for wav rippers. The two programs I download do not rip from CD.. so I'm not sure why they turned up in my search. It's about them I have a flash of inspiration. I check iTunes (my favourite CD ripper and jukebox software) and sure enough - I can rip to wav. I also download a wav editor from download.com so I can trim the file down to a respectable length - after all - I don’t really need a 7 minute ring tone now do I?

Eventually I have a 50 second 16bit mono wav at 8khz - and I manage to convert it to an amr file type. I copy it across to my phone and ... no success.

I delete the other files with an extension of amr - and the ring tones do not disappear from my list. I am slightly puzzled. I search about in the phones files again... I am frustrated by not being able to delete certain files... especially the large wma file I copied there in the first place.

Eventually I find wav files that are named the same as my ring tones. Thinking this will be way to easy - I copy my edited wav to the directory - and .. BINGO!

I now have PPK's Resurection as my ring tone.

Sunday I ironed 9 shirts... I still have 5 left to do - but I shall wait until next Sunday when I'll have 10 shirts to iron...

After the ironing I played Eve and watched Channel 5's film fest. Spies Like Us and Lethal Weapon... totally classic! :)

Current Mood: amused amused
Current Music: PPK - Ressurection

I think there is some sort of conspiricy going on... on a grand scale - almost an experiment to mess with our minds...

I ironed 1 today. I decided that I'd iron until one of two things happened: either the water in my spray bottle or my patience would run out. I'm sure you can guess which happened first.

P.S.

Either we're on a wavelength or I'm talking in my sleep, because I had that quote in my head last night when I was tidying up the kitchen.

Your that extra special kind of computer geek, not only spending hours converting a file type but then spending time writing about it in detail.

Your my hero ;D

I am not sure if it is amazement or bafflement I feel most when I read your entries. I keep trying to tell myself that although I am an idiot when it comes to computers and have no idea what you are doing most times, I am still the proudest mom when I realize how smart my kids are and console myself by thinking I know things too ( just not about computers). I do know cats and thrift shops though.HeHe. Happy hunting on both accounts. Love ya !!!!

Yay for Eeyore indeed! He is by far my favourite character from the Pooh stories... probably one of my favourites frmo any story. Him and Marvin are so alike at times.
