In the past 24-36 hours lots and lots of things have been happening with the LJ code... the most significant being the loss of the invite code system. Now new users can create an account without getting "codez" from an existing user.
Of course, something as monumental as this (in LJ terms of course) has sparked a lot of "OMGOMGOMG" comments, some of which are just too funny to ignore. People are predicting the end of LJ; ads, spam, abuse and general slowness. How the hell they come to those decisions when they have no knowledge of how the LJ servers are set up and working beats me. The fact that the LJ admins are confident they are doing the right thing suggests to me we have nothing to worry about.
There are others complaining that they will loose the ability to invite their friends... I am so amazed at the short-sightedness of this I'll repeat it for you again... they will loose the ability to invite their friends.
Surely by getting rid of the invite system they will now be able to "invite" as many friends as they like? Having just under 300 unused invite codes myself I think I'm justified in calling them small minded jerks... of course I think I'm justified in all my actions... but that's just me!

This brings me to a separate, but related point. Why is it people read the first line of a post and then comment with a stupid question that is answered a little deeper in the original post. The classic example of the last 2 days has to be the number of free users asking if/when their accounts will be deleted. Why don't these people read the whole post before asking a question that makes them look incredibly stupid to the thousands of people who read the news posts?
