Of 30 mile walks and cookies... - The Paranoid Android
...musings of a mechanically depressed robot...
Of 30 mile walks and cookies...
Haven't updated in a while ... been too busy or incapacitated...

The weekend before last I did my first major training for the Caledonian challenge... and failed miserably. I walked 30 miles in the space of about 12 1/2 hours. I should have stopped after 22, I think the last 8 almost killed me. The day started off perfectly (overcast and quite cool), then there was a period of bright sunshine that made the temperatures soar, followed by a summer storm. I got totally soaked, my jeans must have weighed about 10lbs extra by the end of it... just when I really needed it!

I spent the first 3 days of last week unable to walk but the smallest distance, and having to "scoot" down the stairs on my arse because my legs wouldn't bend that much. I was a mess and not fit to be called human. I did manage to work a little from home, although the level of access granted to me by myATAW is limited. I have found the best way to achieve anything is to email myself the files from work and work locally.

Thursday and Friday was a complete wipe-out.

I did manage to get some good things done last week... After ordering a lawn mower from Argos only to be sent a used (and broken!) one. They did send a replacement which I haven't used yet. I cut the grass with a blunt pair of shears which "wouldn't cut butter melted" to quote my father! Misty came up with the bright idea of using our kitchen scissors. This was surprisingly successful. I borrowed dad's mower (whilst waiting for our replacement to be sent) and cut the grass with that. Our front garden now looks like a garden and not a jungle. The grass we cut managed to fill to overflowing the garden refuse sack I stole from my mother.

I also cleaned the spare room. This was important because Izzy came to stay with us for the weekend. Cleaning the spare room required me to organise the office a little better, and to completely mess up our bedroom.

We took Izzy to see Anger Management (which is a good film is a little slow to start) and for some "Nando's". Best damn chicken on the planet. We also tested our new BBQ (to make sure it worked!) twice... and it was good. Misty made Southern Baked Beans which are also good. After a night of beers and Yahtzee! Izzy had to return to "Foreign" at the ungodly hour of 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Dad came over about midday to measure up the doorway so we can brick it up, and measure the wall so we can make a doorway. Shame we can't just magically move the door from one wall to another.

We had another BBQ (Yup! That's 3 in the space of 7 days.) for Sunday dinner, and it was good.

Much goodness for the weekend!

Misty made some cookies on Monday. I brought a dozen or so into work and they disappeared in about 3 minutes flat... they would have disappeared a lot sooner if Frances would have had her way! The next batch will have to be bigger. Misty also did the ironing... all of it... in one go. I believe this is worthy of some sort of medal. I have been reliably informed it's my turn now.

Tuesday saw the building stuffs arrive... I have a pile of bricks and sand in the driveway now.

I was delayed in attending the whinge club, to the point of almost missing it altogether, by this bloody project. Things are not going exactly to plan, and daily hour long meetings do not, contrary to popular opinion, help.

Wedding stuff became the topic of disagreement for a while last night, but I think everything will be okay now.

Current Mood: ackey

I haven't been to a bbq for ages! I need to get home sometime this summer and make sure I have one...no-one ever seems to have them here in London.
