Money grabbing corporate bastards.
Audiogalaxy has reached an out-of-court settlement with the RIAA, NMPA What this effectively means is audiogalaxy has been shut down.

This sucks for many reasons. One of the main reasons being I used to share 2 mp3's of *my* band ... I have the rights to those pieces of work, I *want* for people to be able to download my music.

Now there are those of you out there that think that sharing MP3's is evil, and that the musicians are being robbed and sites like audiogalaxy are the reason. Those people should read this. The availability of music on the internet has not in any way slowed sales in cd's. Some musicians have widened their audiences, thereby increasing sales, by having their music available on the internet. I might never have heard of the Arrogent Worms were it not for Audiogalaxy. If I'd never heard of them, I definately wouldn't have been able to buy 4 of their albums (as I did last year)

This reminds me of a website that posted lyrics to songs. It's members would submit the lyrics, and you could go there to find out what your favourite artist really was singing, instead of those strange words you'd made up in your head. A publishing company (not any artist!) got the server closed down because the lyrics where copywrited. The owner of the site charged nothing for his "service" so how the hell can that be infringment of copywrite? No thought was made for the consumers of music who wanted to know how the words went to their favourite tunes, instead the publisher got the site to *bulk buy* the rights to each of the artists it featured. Most of the written lyrics were trashed, and the site has since died.

All in all, this sickens me.

Current Mood: pissed off pissed off

my two cents

I know what you mean about mp3s enabling artists to widen their audience... I wouldn't have known half the bands I LOVE now, and would have never bought all the cds if it weren't for mp3s. Metropolis records MADE money off of mp3s because without the mp3s I'd never have heard and bought Assembalge 23, VNV Nation, Merge.. etc etc.

And did that lyrics website happen to be www.lyrics.ch?? cause i used to use it

If you know what I'm talking about<or even if you don't> the "new" lyrics.ch that I've seen is actually a German lyrics website, that seems to have a decent library. Well, it's in German but if your german skills are "lacking' you can always translate the site via babelfish.. heh.

Re: my two cents

I thought it was lyrics.ch .. but when I went there, and saw the german site, I thought I must have got it wrong! My german skills used to be lacking, now they are non exsistant! :)
