Sounds of silence.
I woke up this moring with Jona Lewie's "You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties" running around my head. I'm not entirely sure why but it was quite persistent so I purchased his "Greatest Hits" album on iTunes and synched my iPod.

The plan was to play the song all day to rid it from my subconsious. This plan was imediately thwarted by an obvious lack of ear-phones attached to my iPod. I checked the usual places I might have stored such an item in to no avail.

In related news I found out the female backing was performed by Kirsty MacColl!

ha. Speaking of earworms & Kirsty MacColl, I tried the same thing with "A New England" a few days ago. Didn't work. ;)

It's true - there is no guarentee it will work - but it usually works for me nine times out of ten.

I found a spare set of 'phones and I've listened to it for a while last night and a big chunk of today... I'll see if I wake up tomorrow with it running around my head!

P.S. I really love the Billy Bragg/Kirsty MacColl version of New England.

If I listen to a song about 9,000 times it'll go. I think I only got 8,994. :/

The Billy Bragg/Kirsty MacColl version is the only one I've ever heard. In fact, I probably stole this track from you anyway. ;) I didn't even know they'd each done a solo version until I Wiki-ed earlier... Why do I feel like that silly girl must've felt when Jim was scolding her about the Small Faces(?) "cover"?

It was indeed the Small Faces "cover" ... of M-People's Itchycoo Park. :)

I'm pretty sure Kirsty's solo performance was the first I heard and when I first heard Billy's version I thought he did a rather dodgy job of it, and the change of lyrics was clumsy. Of course now I know a little better and I blame that sort of thing on the folly of youth! ;)
