Epilepsy Action
Last night dad and I went to a charity dinner organised by Jim's fiancée, Diana, in aid of epilepsy awareness. Diana has been suffering from epilepsy since she was a child and the cause (a brain tumour) brought Jim and her together.

I managed to get the afternoon off work (by bribing Dave with the offer of going in on Monday... I'm supposed to be on Holiday for two weeks now!) and get home in good time to have a shower and a shave. I have had a cold for most of this week and I don't feel particularly fantastic... but the night was good fun over all.

The meal was nice, and I was close to winning the reverse bingo (if one of your numbers are called out - you're out). It got down to about 12 people before my number was called... the winner walked away with £100!

After the auction (which went on a tad too long for my liking) Jim's new band played. They were quite good considering it's their first gig, although I do believe their keyboardist was a little drunk (it was getting late and the drinks had been flowing) because I'm sure he was playing a different tune to the rest of them! They play Up The Junction (Squeeze) now... a new addition since the last time I saw them in rehearsals.

After the briefest of discos the second band of the night came on...

Way back I used to play in a band with Jim. We would practice at an out of the way studio called "The Farm." The guys that run the place were in a band and they were supposed to be quite good and I always meant to go see them play but never got around to it; until last night!

Phil was on guitar and sang, "Blind" Ray was on drums... and yes - he really is blind! I will have to get around to posting about the day we recorded our first tape - for that was the day I first met "Blind" Ray

They were a really quite good covers band. They played the rock n roll classics and they did them the justice they deserve. It was the right band for the crowd of which many were up and dancing.

Two outstanding memories of the night:
There are a lot of really over weight girls in Essex who don't dress well.
Jim tried to "set me up" (in his own quirky way) with a girl who, hands down, has the best legs I've seen in a damn long time (the rest of her was nice too... but her legs were amazing). I politely declined because his quirky way is not a great way to start any relationship, plus she looked a fair bit younger than someone I should be considering for a date.
