Your starter for ten...
There are two bus routes from point A to point B

Route A has a stop 100 yards from point A (2 minute walk)... the journey takes 30 minutes... the bus runs every 12 minutes.
Route B has a stop 800 yards from point A (15 minute walk)... the journey takes 10 minutes... the bus runs every 15 minutes.

Which route should be taken?  Workings should be shown.

ETA
Bonus question.

Route B 's stop is on route A. (i.e. With a pass you could get on the bus on route A, travel to the stop where the two routes cross over and get off then get on the Route B bus for no extra cost). The journey time between Route A's stop and Route B's stop is about 2 minutes. Does this change your answer to the original question.

Route B. It's shorter by 4 minutes than route A....The 3rd choice sounds enticing as it sounds faster. I'd pick choice #3.

A couple of the guys at work are with you on that... and they have a couple math degrees between them - so you get full marks! :)

Answer 4) Get a bike.

I want to get a bike - but biking it into work would be a bit much for me at the moment... the bus quiz was just the first part of the journey - the next is a 12-15 mile journey by train.

I could cycle to the station - but this is Romford station - and I'd come back to a spray painted frame with no wheels, chain, or any other removable part! :)

If it's raining or miserable, Route A. If the weather is nice, Route B.

I'm still baffled why an 800 yard trip takes 15 minutes to travel, however....

It's the extra variables that make all the difference!

I'm really bad at the whole yards/miles thing - I've done a bit of research and it's actually 1,300 yards which takes me about 15 minutes to walk (there is a hill involved!)

Ah. That distance makes sense of the whole problem.

And it still depends on whether you feel the need for a bit of exercise.
