I don't like Mondays
I never did tell the end of the story of my central heating/boiler...

Last Sunday my boiler decided to stop working with a little flashing error and bugger all hot water.  The repair men came on Tuesday "Morning" (just before lunch) and found a fault - but "didn't have the part on the van."  Wednesday morning (just gone 8) they reappear with the vital bit - only to tell me (in a comedy "Do you want the good news or the bad news" style) that I still had no hot water.

It would appear that when I had the boiler installed the bastards didn't clean my radiators as agreed in my invoice.  The crap that was in my radiators is now also in the boiler - stopping it from heating water.  The bad news was - to get my system cleaned would be about £800 - and my service contract doesn't cover it.  The good news was I could get it done cheaper if I went to a private plumber... about £400 cheap it turns out.

I've just had a call from "Dan" who'll do it for £375 and can fit me in a week on Friday... the story of the ever breaking central heating system continues...

I will - he seems a cheerful enough chappy - but then that might have something to do with making nearly £400 for a days work!

Have you priced up a new boiler?

It is possible it would be A) about the same price and B) more energy efficient.

We had a 'third party' replacement for a small boiler that cost LESS than the cleaning, heated a smaller tank and saved about 25% on our heatinbg bill ...

I spent a little over £1,000 on a new boiler and shower just about 4 years ago... it was these guys who didn't clean my central heating system! :(

Ugh! Horrible people! I will zap them all intermittently with my patented new Guilt Missile launcher. No wonder you're annoyed!

Write and threaten to sue the original company who didn't complete work as billed for, for the cost of any repair/remedial work caused by their omission PLUS suitable recompense for the inconvenience and lost hours of paid work.

At the very least they should offer to cover the cost of the boiler repair.

Oh you know I am way too English to be doing that.

I might phone them up and whine at them for a bit - you never know! ;)
