It's life gym
Yeah - same dodgy pun. - I might create a filter for these posts as it's gonna be dull to anyone other than me (I am guessing)

But then - nearly all my posts are dull to anyone other than me so what the hell - if you get bored tell me and I'll hide them.

Tonight I managed about 45 minutes of exercise over the space of an hour - and I have a name for my nemesis - it is the rowing machine.

I started gently with 15 minutes on a bike. This went quite well and I was feeling good enough to follow it with 15 minutes on the treadmill (walking - about 3.5mph up a slight hill). This started to feel like exercise so I had a bit of a rest. II then planned on 5 minutes on the rowing machine. I know from previous attempts that it kicks my arse - but I was a lot fitter back then (I used to be able to last about 15 minutes on one) so I though 5 minutes was a sensible target. - My arse it was. I managed about 50 seconds before I could feel my pulse in my head and I wanted to throw up.

I'm not too macho to admit defeat so I stopped for a short while and adjusted my target to 2 1/2 minutes. This was also a little ambitious and after a lapsed time of about 5 minutes I'd managed about 2 actually rowing.

This has given me something to aim for - I want to be able to row for 5 minutes non stop and not puke.

After a good 5 minute breather I did 15 minutes of the cross trainer. This just about finished me off and with a face like a beetroot I called it quits. We'll see what I feel like in the morning - and the morning after before I go back on Thursday evening.

But it's all for a good cause isn't it?

Stick with it and it'll get better and it'll worth it:D

Right now - I don't feel (too) bad so there's no way I'm giving up on it yet.

tomorrow might be another story - but I'll see what happens then.

If it makes you feel any better, I am toatlly impressed. I couldn't begin to do what you accomplished. I would have probably only tackled one machine at a time. Keep up the good work.

Thanks :)

I did consider the posibility of just cycling for 45 minutes, but I forgot my iPod and I was getting a little bored after 15 minutes.

I would have done good to make it 15 minutes with an ipod :D

Exercise is so dull! You can only read the instructions on the wall so many times.

HA HA HA! I love your posts, and fully intend to try your workout.

You and sacramentalist should have a pun off.

hmmm - puns at dawn...

I only consider myself a pupil of the art. I live in awe of the masters.

I think to anyone who has seen the inside of a gym... or perhaps hasn't spent the last couple years sat on his/her arse should be comfortable with what I did... apart from the rowing machine - because the devil himself devised that device of torture.

It's an excellent cause!

Oh, how I wish I had a rowing machine of my own! It was my favorite thing to do when I was a gym rat.

Keep at it!

Oh dear. I have an appointment to visit a gym in Finchley this week. I'm scared now. :(

Be afriad... be very afraid...

actually - I feel good this morning - even after just about 3 hours of sleep. I may well suffer tomorrow.

I rather liked the cross trainer. It's like jogging on pedals but still moving your arms. I liked it better than the rowing machine because I prefer to stand, not sit/squat. Good luck with that. I suspect I may be rejoining a gym soon myself. We'll see. ;-)

We'll make it a competition - someone to compete against - when you join we'll compete as to how many times we actually visit the damn place ;)
nuala From: nuala Date: October 24th, 2006 03:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hahaha! Brilliant! Do you know why I quit the first time? Because I was getting better exercise walking to the place (3/4 of a mile) than I was actually going. ;-)
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: October 24th, 2006 03:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
Think of the walk there and back as a warm-up/down! :)
nuala From: nuala Date: October 24th, 2006 09:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yeah, that's what I told my temporary trainer. I don't need to warm up, I walked nearly a mile to get here! Uphill even! ;-)
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: October 25th, 2006 06:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
But they don't understand... for them exercise is fun fun fun - they can't grasp the concept that we'd rather be somewhere else! :)
