Back to the grind stone. - The Paranoid Android

Back to the grind stone.
So I'm back at work.  The past 14 days have flown by.

After arriving at the airport a day early (d'oh!) I return to the airport (another 05:15 wake up call) the following morning about 07:45.  There is no sign of Misty, so I scout around a little and check the arrivals board.  It informs me the flight arrived on time and that the baggage is "in [the] hall."  I wait.  I wait some more.  I amuse myself with the various inappropriate costumes people are wearing into the airport.  I notice it's now 09:00 and Misty has yet to appear.  I begin to wonder if she made the flight (memories of the previous day flit across my mind) but the arrivals board still has the flight listed as "baggage in hall."  Misty finally appears shortly afterwards... she had to wait in line for immigration for two hours.  It will not be soon enough when she can finally apply for a British passport!

The dice of fate are decidedly loaded against Misty that day.  We decide a cab ride home is in order until we find out the cab firm at the airport want to charge us "somewhere near £83" to get home.  The cab ride to the airport only cost us £49 so I can't fathom the need to charge another 30-some quid... other than them being a bunch of conning bastards with a captive market.

We go get some breakfast and I call my local cab firm who can't be bothered to come pick us up.  Our waitress ignores us for 15 minutes and forgets Misty's preserves.  Misty leaves her jumper on the train... all in all a crap start to her return.

Misty slept for a while with Sam in her lap and I tried to stay awake and watch Blackadder for the second time in a week.

Yesterday I went to the Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court.  Dad and I got there about 13:30 after a bastard journey on the circle line.  Big Ade had organised a corporate deal with the Sports and Social club, so we had beer tokens, a glass, a program, food tokens and somewhere to sit already sorted!  I had many beers (I was good and stuck to half pints all day) of which I remember only a few.  They were for the most part very pleasant... there were a couple of exceptions, especially one Ioan got which tasted like piss.

About 19:30 I got a call from my sweet wife telling me she had left her door keys at home... she was going to get home about 11 - could I be there to let her in.

About 22:00 I got a text (I was about home by then) telling me she was still in the pub - "Quite pissed but having fun"...

About 01:45 I get another text informing me she is staying with Dora...

Tis a good job I love that woman!

This morning has been spent reading the 400+ emails I received in the last 10 working days... quite a few of which are for someone else with my name... perhaps even two someones!

Now I should really get back to it - I have a meeting with my guv'nor to see what the hell I should be doing!

You're a good man! Is that the reason for your 4th of July party?

I've never been much of a doodler I'm afraid, but I can rock the socks off a spirograph.

It's not so much that they are conning bastards .. they have to get back to the Gatwick area, whereas if you're travelling from home, and use a local cab company, they need to come back anyway and don't charge you what is effectively the return fare

But... both cabs have to make a journey of twice the distance for a single fair.

local cab does home-airport-home
airport cab does airport-home-airport.

I still think it's a con.

Pretty much. They know they have you by the goolies when you're at the airport and exhausted. I once paid over £90 to get to Norf London from Gatwick. I'd also been harrassed by immigration for the better part of several hours when I'd had no sleep at all. :-/

"Tis a good job I love that woman"......

.... and some! OMG! I would be hiding somewhere off the beaten track just now! Then I'd be thinking "How much serious ass-licking's gonna put this right?" The thought of coming between my man (men!) and their beer, makes me sweat and trrrrrremble!!!! Hoho! Humhum!
