Independence day...
Misty and I hosted our annual-ish "Fourth of July" party on Saturday.  There was a great mix of people (my work, Misty's old work, The poetry Café, Family, and more).  I dug out the chocolate fountain which went down well with the ladies.  Misty made beefburger patties, and I burned them on the grill.  I also incinerated sausages... and dad sung "When will I see you again" to them.  I love my family.  There was vegetarian fare, which I singed without prejudice.

There were a couple of important events on the TV... so the socialising stopped to see what would happen to Rose, and whether Portugal would get a proper stuffing in the third place play-offs.  I didn't cry watching Dr Who... I got some bbq smoke in my eyes... honest.  There were those (who shall remain nameless) who mocked us for wanting to watch Dr Who, but who later admitted they were taping it - and they still watched it through the serving hatch in the kitchen!  I should document here for prosperity that Portugal got the proper stuffing they deserved.  This made many of us happy.

Big Ade got to see Mr Twinks, so he left a happy man too.

The weather wasn't the best it could be - but it was not raining and that is all that really counts!  It was a great day, it's a great excuse to have people round, it also means we really clean the house at least once a year! ;)

Sunday we cleared up.  Misty did a bunch of ironing (thanks dear) while I washed the mountain that was our dirty dishes.  I fired up the barbie again(!) and cremated a few more burgers and sausages.

We watched several episodes of Firefly, some craptastic afternoon TV before watching more Firefly until I went to bed.

If you're going to have a 4th of July party you need to call them hamburgers and hotdogs. :P

But they weren't hotdogs. They really were sausages. But I agree. Hamburgers, please! ;-)

then they should be called brats!
nuala From: nuala Date: July 12th, 2006 01:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
But they aren't bratwursts either. They're English sausages. *flails* They're not over-sage-y like American breakfast sausage, and they come in their own intestinal casings like brats, and sometimes they're made with Pork&Apple (yum!) or Pork&Leek (Yummy too!) and I even saw some once with Pork&Mustard&Parsnip (would have been yum if I liked mustard).

You can (and people do) put anything in sausages... There was a butcher in Chadwell Heath that did the strangest combinations like chicken curry! My mate Ian was a big fan, and one holiday we had a different flavoured sausage every day for breakfast!

But... but... they were made of cow, not pig!
nuala From: nuala Date: July 13th, 2006 09:06 am (UTC) (Link)
But that's what they're called! They were named after a place, not what they're made of. (Err, I think.)

Hamburgers come from Hamburg? I thought that was an urban myth.

This is what I found on Yahoo:

You just say that because I was there and who wouldn't want to experience the greatness that is me.

And you missed the charades. ;-)

No, he says that because James's wife is totally hot. :D

Oh. I figured that was so obvious that it didn't need restating!

I knew you couldn't handle the wink-wink. Know whatimean?

You want the wink-wink? ... you can't handle the wink-wink! ...
tweezlebum From: tweezlebum Date: July 13th, 2006 12:03 pm (UTC) (Link)
No one can handle my wink-wink. It is strictly off limits, although I do occasionally make an exception for Dr Brake...but he is an optometrist, after all.
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: July 12th, 2006 10:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
I heard that too...
tweezlebum From: tweezlebum Date: July 13th, 2006 12:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
Must be true then. :)
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: July 13th, 2006 03:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hell - *I* missed the charades... I guess that's partly my own fault... and the fact that you all stopped when the football finished.
nuala From: nuala Date: July 13th, 2006 03:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hahahaha! It was all a nefarious plot. We didn't really care who got third or fourth in the World Cup.

Or first and second, for that matter. ;-)

Wanna come next year? Be in or around London for one of the weekends either side of the fourth and you're invited!

I was NOT a part of that crowd lurking at the serving hatch. I DID record it. And I STILL have not watched it. Tonight, methinks... :D
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: July 13th, 2006 11:13 am (UTC) (Link)
I couldn't tell from the large crowd... :)
tweezlebum From: tweezlebum Date: July 12th, 2006 01:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
And seriously? If you didn't want to weep like a girl when he tried to tell her he loved her, you just aren't human.
paranoidandroid From: paranoidandroid Date: July 13th, 2006 11:12 am (UTC) (Link)
Hey - I'm a man .... we're only 3/5 human (geddit?)
