It's alive!
I'm back!

Over the last weekend the project I've been working on for the last 6 months or so went live. This required me to work a 12 hour day on Saturday, which required my wife to stop talking to me, but it's in, it's working, and I await my humongous bonus.

This week is a long hand-holding exercise with the guys who are to use the new ledger, plus the occasional prudent question from the auditor(s).

Over all most people seem to be happy with the new functionality with JAP actually admitting to being excited by it. She is a strange young lady.

There was a tiny hiccup on Tuesday when a fire in Bournemouth took out half our data centre there, but we cannot be blamed for that - no one saw me do it, you can't prove a thing. I would imagine that the old GL box would have been affected in the same way - it was housed in the same data centre. It did thoroughly test our contingency plans, which at first seemed to be "run around like a headless chicken" but settled reasonably quickly into getting the backup servers on line. After event analysis showed the UPS were fried by a power spike caused by the fire which prevented the automatic switching to the backup servers.

It's that time of year again, where people do silly stuff in the office in order to raise money for Children in Need. So far we've be hassled for tombola tickets, cake and cookie sales, and on the sixth floor a crazy golf tournament. I played my "round" today and got a very respectable 16, the current leader just a single stroke ahead of me. I am most pleased.

The final couple of rounds will be played tomorrow... I will try and remember my camera so you can see the course in all it's craziness!

There have been a number of rants floating around my head, but I had better leave them for a subsequent post and get on with a bit of work.

It didn't require me to stop talking to you. It was just an added perk. :)

LOL! My only question, after reading this entire post, was "Did Misty REALLY stop talking to you?? Or was she silently fuming at your employers THROUGH you??". I do that to Chris lots.

Glad everything's going well, and I hope all your hardwork is soon recognized!!!!

They're raising money for United Way here this month....by selling candy from the travelling candy cart. *blink* This from the same company that REQUIRED us to sign up for a health "management" program the result of which is personal "counseling" via phone once a month in order to avoid hefty health insurance pricing hikes. What's the number one thing the counsel everyone on? Healthy eating and weight loss. That should be easy while we're stuffing our faces full of guilt-chocolate, right???

Why can't they just carry a big jar and a baseball bat around...maybe held by a sick kid in a wheelchair? Probably be more effective.

Yup - Misty really did stop talking to me... although it was just for Saturday night.

We've had enough "guilt-chocolate" this past two weeks to kill an african elephant. (I do love that phrase "guilt-chocolate!")

I think the baseball bat tactic will be in use tomorrow (Friday) when the guys come round with big buckets to fill.

For me, obviously. I don't care about perking anyone else. :)

Awww - thank you dear.

You may be please to note that although I haven't had the spare time to write or comment, I have been reading my friends page over the last couple months with my phone... it's just a shame that the post a commment page doesn't load properly on the phone or I would have been able to let people know I was still reading.

I've missed a shit load of things in the past couple months as a result of this damned project... they really need to show me some appreciation in January or I will walk.

question

...mind if I add you? Found you to be a person interesting enough to make me wanna find out more about ^^ ...haha, the funny thing is that I was actually lead to your userpix-page by searching with Google's picture search for the keywords 'crazy sheep', and found a pic of Midge Ure there :D ...small world, the virtual one I mean.

Steve didn't ask me anything :) ... I'm so obviously not important enough.
