I'm back!
All good things finally come to and end, and my holiday is no exception. Getting up this morning was hard.

It didn't start well: The train was running late, the car hire company was a couple miles from the Station, and closing at 6. The queue for the taxis rank stretched back for miles. There was a lot of weather going on.

It managed to get worse. The car hire firm added another £6.00 per day because Misty is under 25. Misty informed them she had put in her date of birth on the web site, and showed them a copy of the quote she received. No dice! As it was already 6:30 by now, we just paid and left.

It was still getting worse! The passenger side door wouldn't unlock. I had to crawl into the seat from the back. All this and we'd only been in Aberdeen for less than an hour.

The car was to be a pain in the arse and wallet throughout the holiday. After the lock on the passenger side finally started working... the battery in the key fob "died." This was bad for many reasons. The most important was it deactivated the car alarm. Although we could unlock the car with the key, this didn't deactivate the alarm, so we looked like we was breaking into our own car every time we unlocked it. The key fob also was the only means to open the boot (trunk) as the button in the car didn't work, and there was no key hole in the boot.

Our car has also been "upgraded" for free! The fact that this car drank petrol twice as fast as the car we had requested didn't seem to enter into it.

It wasn't all doom and gloom though. We stayed in Nan's log cabin, spent time with Doug, Sheena and Stuart, and was graced with Marks presence for whole hours at a time! I got to see Michael, who was about 8 the last time I saw him. He's a photographer for the Journal and Press in Aberdeen. I spent some time with Dad, which doesn't happen so much these days.

We drove about a lot. I spent a lot. Misty spent a lot too. We are going to be severely broke by the time the credit card bill arrives!

The journey home was a journey of hell. The carriage we had our seats reserved in was the "quiet" carriage. Mobile phones, games, and computers where supposed to be set to silent, and calls where to be made after walking to the area between the cars. No such luck! The stupid ring tones were left on, calls were made from seat, noisy computer games were played...but...

that was NOTHING compared to the noise the 40 or so children made. From just outside Aberdeen until Edinburgh we had an entire scout troop! From Edinburgh we had the worst screaming child I've ever heard, and because of my travel curse, that is saying something!

Car's and Trains aside it was a good holiday.

Current Mood: sad sad

Isn't it lovely that I don't have to worry about typing up all the stuff from my paper journal? You've done it all for me. :D

I'll make you a travel doll so next time it will get all the 'curse' and you won't get so stressed!

Aw... thanks! :) My curse is the "screaming kid" curse. At least once every time I travel I will be sat behind, or in front of, a screaming child. It works best on aeroplanes, but the train and the bus are not exempt.

One of my work mates doubted me until he had to travel with me to Luxembourg. You would imagine a plane from City Airport at 8:00 in the morning to Lux would be all business... but sat behind us was a mum and baby... and the baby screamed the entire hour and 15 minutes of the journey!

He doesn't doubt my travel curse now! :)

Did you get any compensation for the dudd car?? I suppose at least if you fly to Aberdeen you've only got the screaming brat for an hour or so, and no mobile phones ringing (least they should all be switched off during the flight!)

No real compensation, although after Misty called the customer care line we got the "underage" increase back.
